Our four-step process

We work through each kitchen in the same four steps. Each one is finished and checked against your specification before we move on, so you stay involved throughout and the standard stays consistent.

  • Design and planning
  • Removing the existing kitchen
  • Fitting and installation
  • Worktops
Modern kitchen with a white island and black tall units

1. Design, then strip-out

We visit at a time that suits you to survey your existing kitchen and take accurate measurements. We then sit down together and go through the options, from unit styles and colours to tiling, appliances and layout, and draw up a plan to your specification.

Next, we strip the old kitchen back to a clean slate, removing worktops, units, appliances and tiling. We know this stage is disruptive, so we work as quickly as we can without cutting corners.

2. Fitting, tiling and worktops

Your new units go in exactly as designed, with doors and drawers fitted to open and close properly. Because we handle the gas, plumbing and electrics, we can also fit appliances such as ovens, washing machines and dishwashers, and check each one is working. Any tiling you want is part of the installation too.

The worktops go in last, made to the colour, material and design you chose, then positioned carefully, secured and sealed. Before we leave, we walk through the kitchen with you, and if anything is not right we put it right while we are still on site.

More than kitchen fitters

The same team offers building services such as garden walls, block paved driveways, pointing and extensions, and is happy to work alongside a team you already have in place. Our roofers handle new pitched roofs, flat roofs, chimney and lead work, maintenance and repairs, and we also carry out loft conversions, refurbishments and bathroom installations. We are members of Checkatrade, and accredited by FENSA and the Federation of Master Builders.

Bespoke or off the shelf, with an itemised quote

Some customers want a kitchen designed and built from scratch. Others have already chosen a ready-made kitchen and need it installed well. We do both, and before any work begins you receive an itemised quotation, so there are no hidden fees or surprises later on.

We also fit kitchens for homeowners in nearby Romsey, and work for builders who need an extra hand on their own kitchen projects.

Speak to our past clients

Many clients come back to us for later projects, and much of our work now arrives through referrals and recommendations. If you would like to speak to previous kitchen customers before hiring us, just ask and we will put you in touch.

Local to you

Kitchen fitting across Southampton and nearby

Many Southampton kitchens were planned for a very different way of living. In the city's terraces the kitchen is often a narrow galley at the back, with the dining room on the other side of a wall, so a new kitchen frequently goes hand in hand with knocking through or extending into the side return. In the interwar semis the job is more often updating an older layout, moving services and fitting units that make better use of a square room.

Also covering

West End
Living close to our West End base makes it easier for us to bring samples round and measure up again once walls come out.
Bitterne
In a Bitterne semi, opening the kitchen into the old back room to make a kitchen-diner is often the change people are after.
Hedge End
Newer Hedge End homes tend to have a sound layout already, so kitchen work there is usually about replacing tired units and appliances.
Totton
For Totton households we can fit an off-the-shelf range or a bespoke design, and plan the plumbing and electrics as part of the same job.
Romsey
Romsey's older cottages and townhouses can have uneven walls and floors, which bespoke units and careful scribing handle better than flat-pack.
New Forest
Forest cottages often have smaller rooms and low ceilings, so we plan storage carefully to make the most of a compact kitchen.

A typical kitchen project in Portswood, Southampton

White handleless kitchen with a breakfast barGrey shaker-style kitchen with tall larder units
The home
Portswood's end-of-terrace houses usually have the kitchen in a narrow rear room, with the side wall giving a little more freedom over window positions.
What's usually wanted
Owners often want more worktop and storage in a kitchen that was never designed for modern appliances.
How we'd approach it
We measure carefully, plan units around the existing window and door, and reroute plumbing and electrics where the layout changes. Slim units, tall larders and a breakfast bar are common ways to gain storage, and we coordinate parking for deliveries on busy residential streets.
The result
A compact kitchen that holds everything and is easier to cook in every day.

What our customers say

Built on recommendations.

Caws Carpentry have done an excellent job at opening up our wall and reinforcing it with steel. Ryan and his team were professional – on time, no problems.
GGary LangdownCustomer review
Caws Carpentry undertook a large extension with new roof, attic conversion and total refurbishment of the whole house over a period of 11 months. Caws Carpentry were well-organised with great attention to detail and kept us informed and consulted on changes to scope and cost. The quality of workmanship and finish was exceptional and we are so pleased with the result.
SSophie LiddellExtension, loft conversion & refurbishment
I thought this was a fairly straightforward job but as it progressed I realised there was more to it than I expected. In the end 3 different teams worked on it and I appreciated them each being experts in their own particular trade, rather than using someone who was more of a general carpenter/Builders. Each team was very efficient and did a superb job. Ryan was always available if needed and I was consulted on each stage of the project, and he took a lot of care to ensure the final design would stand the test of time. Highly recommend
