The work we take on

Our carpenters and builders cover a wide range of work, and we are with you through every stage of the project. On the carpentry side that includes furniture, decking, staircases and doors, alongside:

  • Bathroom installations
  • Extensions
  • Kitchens
  • Loft conversions
  • Refurbishments
  • Roofing
  • Decorating

Bathrooms and kitchens

If your bathroom suite looks dated, we can design and fit a new one. We can include a wet room shower, a Jacuzzi or sunken bath, and underfloor heating.

For kitchens, we install off-the-shelf and fully bespoke designs. A kitchen is more than units: there is electrical, gas and plumbing work too, and we carry all of that out ourselves. We can plan the whole installation, or work with a team you already have in place.

Extensions and loft conversions

Short of space but don’t want to move? We design and build porch extensions, single storey kitchen extensions and double storey kitchen and bedroom extensions. A single storey extension can give you a new kitchen and dining area and free up the old kitchen for living space.

If there is no room to extend outwards, the loft is often the biggest untapped space in the house. Many loft conversions come under permitted development, so they can often be finished sooner than an extension and can work out more cost-effective. Rooms our Southampton clients consider for the extra space include:

  • Bedrooms
  • An office or study area
  • Lounge space
  • An entertainment room
  • An expanded kitchen
  • A kids’ playroom

Refurbishments and roofing

For refurbishments, we can add a new window, wall or staircase, convert a garage, build a garden summer house or simply re-plaster a room, and advise you on the right methods and materials.

We also carry out roofing on extensions, flat roofs and new pitched roofs, including chimney work and slate, concrete or tiles. We can run the roofing from start to finish or add manpower to a roofing team you already have.

Design, planning and an itemised quote

Our carpenters stay with you from start to finish, handling the design and planning of your project as well as the building work. Before work starts you receive a full itemised quotation, with no hidden extras or fees along the way. That joined-up approach is how we have built our reputation in Southampton and nearby towns such as Romsey.

Private homeowners can call on us directly, and we also work alongside other contractors who only need us for one part of a larger project.

Local to you

Carpentry across Southampton and nearby

Carpentry in Southampton's older streets is rarely square. Victorian and Edwardian terraces have alcoves, deep skirting and staircases that have moved over a century, so fitted furniture and new doors have to be scribed to suit. In newer homes the work is more about built-in storage, new staircases and garden structures. We make and fit to measure, so the finished piece fits the room rather than the other way round.

Also covering

West End
As West End is home for us, smaller carpentry jobs nearby, like hanging doors or fitting shelves, are easy to fit in.
Bitterne
Alcove units either side of a chimney breast are a popular commission in Bitterne's semis, where the original fireplaces often remain.
Hedge End
In Hedge End we fit a lot of built-in wardrobes and under-stair storage in modern homes that were built with little of either.
Totton
Decking, pergolas and garden rooms are common carpentry requests from Totton homeowners with decent-sized back gardens.
Romsey
Romsey's period buildings sometimes need sash windows, panelled doors or staircase parts repaired or remade to match the originals.
New Forest
In the New Forest, timber structures like garden buildings and outbuildings may need permission from the National Park Authority, which we check first.

A typical carpentry project in West End, Southampton

Fitted oak wardrobes and drawers in a bedroomTimber decking and a cedar-clad screen on a rear terrace
The home
West End, where we are based, has many chalet bungalows with sloping ceilings and awkward eaves upstairs.
What's usually wanted
People often ask for fitted storage that makes use of the low spaces under the roof slope.
How we'd approach it
We measure each slope and alcove and make wardrobes, drawers and eaves cupboards to fit the angles rather than squeezing in freestanding furniture. Being close to our base, we can fit in stages around the household.
The result
Upstairs rooms gain proper storage without losing floor space.

SSophie LiddellExtension, loft conversion & refurbishment
I thought this was a fairly straightforward job but as it progressed I realised there was more to it than I expected. In the end 3 different teams worked on it and I appreciated them each being experts in their own particular trade, rather than using someone who was more of a general carpenter/Builders. Each team was very efficient and did a superb job. Ryan was always available if needed and I was consulted on each stage of the project, and he took a lot of care to ensure the final design would stand the test of time. Highly recommend
