What we can refurbish

Every refurbishment is planned around your own requirements. The work we carry out includes:

  • Extensions
  • Loft conversions
  • Bathroom installations
  • Kitchens
  • Decorating
  • And much more

Short of space? Extend or convert instead of moving

If your home feels small, moving isn’t the only answer. Extending or converting the loft is often more cost-effective, and both are an investment in your property. If you have the outside space, we can build a single or double storey extension for a larger family kitchen and dining area, a bigger living room or extra bedrooms.

If you don’t have room to extend, look up. Most lofts are only used for storage, but a conversion can give you new bedrooms, a playroom or extra bathroom space.

Bathrooms and kitchens built around you

Whether you prefer a bath or a power shower, we can design a bathroom suite for you and handle every part of it, from the first designs through to the carpentry and plumbing. Features can include underfloor heating, built-in storage, freestanding tubs and power showers.

For kitchens, we can design and install a bespoke kitchen or fit an off-the-shelf one. Family dining space, the latest appliances or a kitchen island can all be built into the design, and we manage the project from start to finish.

Several trades, one team

Our team is trained and experienced across a range of trades, so we can look after design, carpentry, electrical and plumbing work within the same project. We are accredited by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), FENSA, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and Checkatrade.

Whole house or single rooms

We carry out total refurbishments of a whole property and part refurbishments of specific rooms, for commercial properties as well as homes. That can mean stripping the property back to basics, making the structural changes and finishing with plastering and decorating. The work can include:

  • Adding windows and doors
  • New staircases
  • Granny annexes
  • Summer houses
  • Plastering and decorating

Your say, your price

We consult with you before and during the work, so the decisions on your home stay with you. Once you have settled on the changes, we arrange a convenient date to start, and our team works quickly and carefully to keep the disruption down.

Home refurbishment across Southampton and nearby

Refurbishment in Southampton often means bringing an older house up to date without losing what makes it work. Victorian and Edwardian terraces may need replastering, new floors, rewiring and a better layout at the back, while interwar and post-war homes are often stripped back room by room. Many projects also involve houses bought to renovate before moving in, where a clear plan and a fixed quote matter as much as the building work itself.

Also covering

West End
Because we are based in West End, a whole-house refurbishment nearby is easier to manage, with someone able to call in at any stage.
Bitterne
Bitterne's interwar homes often come up for renovation with original features, dated kitchens and bathrooms all needing attention at once.
Hedge End
In Hedge End refurbishments are usually about updating finishes and layouts in homes built from the 1970s onwards.
Totton
We take on both partial and full refurbishments in Totton, from one dated room to a property being prepared for sale or letting.
Romsey
Refurbishing an older Romsey property can mean working with lime plaster, original joinery and period details that are worth keeping.
New Forest
For New Forest cottages and village homes, careful refurbishment inside avoids the restrictions that come with changing the outside.

A typical refurbishment project in Freemantle, Southampton

Freshly plastered and decorated room with oak flooringRefurbished room with oak flooring and an exposed brick fireplace
The home
Freemantle has plenty of older houses that have been converted into flats, and a ground-floor flat in one of these often needs updating throughout.
What's usually wanted
New owners and landlords commonly want the whole flat brought up to date before it is lived in or let.
How we'd approach it
We usually work room by room through strip-out, any rewiring and replastering, then new floors, kitchen and bathroom. Because the building is shared, we plan noisy work and access with neighbours and the freeholder in mind.
The result
A flat that is clean, safe and ready to move into or let.

What our customers say

Built on recommendations.

Caws Carpentry have done an excellent job at opening up our wall and reinforcing it with steel. Ryan and his team were professional – on time, no problems.
GGary LangdownCustomer review
Caws Carpentry undertook a large extension with new roof, attic conversion and total refurbishment of the whole house over a period of 11 months. Caws Carpentry were well-organised with great attention to detail and kept us informed and consulted on changes to scope and cost. The quality of workmanship and finish was exceptional and we are so pleased with the result.
SSophie LiddellExtension, loft conversion & refurbishment
I thought this was a fairly straightforward job but as it progressed I realised there was more to it than I expected. In the end 3 different teams worked on it and I appreciated them each being experts in their own particular trade, rather than using someone who was more of a general carpenter/Builders. Each team was very efficient and did a superb job. Ryan was always available if needed and I was consulted on each stage of the project, and he took a lot of care to ensure the final design would stand the test of time. Highly recommend
